Sister Rosemary Flanigan,  March 10, 1965 St Louis delegate to Selma, Alabama
It is apt that Kathryn Stockett’s first novel, The Help, became an overnight sensation when it was published in 2009 and then made into a major motion picture because it revived memories of the Civil Rights struggle in the South in the 1960’s. So did a documentary, “Sisters of Selma,” which aired on PBS in 2007. Sister Flanigan was one of the six nuns in the St. Louis delegation that went to Selma on March 10, 1965, the week following Bloody Sunday. That delegation was featured in the documentary.
Let us use this tiny window from our past to serve as a reflection point on our present.
