Program for Sunday, July 24, 2011
1:00 pm till 3:00 pm, at UMKC, Room 301, Haag Hall
Fatimeh El-Sherif, Asst. Chief financial officer for Sinai University
El-Sherif spent the last three years in Egypt as the ferment grew and masses united to protest for the world-wide need for food, water and revolution. Fatimeh is an educated, modern woman who was present in Egypt prior to and during the uprising. The nature of the change in Egypt (and elsewhere) and how the needs of all people might be accommodated is an open question. There over 500 million women living in Muslim majority countries. Stereotypical visions are misleading. Many millions are, like Ms. El-Sherif, modern, educated and operating in what has previously a “man’s worldâ€.
