What the Frack are we doing?

Program for June 30, 2013
1:00 pm till 3:00 pm, at UMKC, Room 301

Rita Norton, Sustainable Energy Advocate, and Kenneth S Schmitz, UMKC Professor of Physical Chemistry and Environmental Studies

“Fracking” is short for “hydraulic fracturing,” a process by which vertical and, more recently, horizontal drilling with water, sand and “proprietary formulas” of chemicals are injected deep into the earth to force out crude fossil fuels, including those referred to as “natural gas.”  Ken will talk about the science of fracking.  Rita will talk about its destructive charm.
